Slope deformation, reservoir variation and meteorological data at the Khoko landslide, Enguri hydroelectric basin (Georgia), during 2016–2019

Abstract. The Greater Caucasus mountain belt is characterized by deep valleys, steep slopes and frequent seismic activity, the combination of which results in major landslide hazard. Along eastern side Enguri water reservoir lies active Khoko landslide, whose head scarp zone affects important Jvari–Khaishi–Mestia road, one few connections with interior Caucasus. Here, we present a database measurement time series taken over period 4 years (2016–2019) that enables us to compare slope deformation meteorological factors human-induced perturbations owing variations level reservoir. monitoring system used composed two digital extensometers, placed within artificial trenches excavated across scarp. stations are also equipped internal near-ground surface thermometers. dataset integrated daily measurements rainfall lake level. – first installed Georgia was set up framework NATO-funded project, aimed at assessing different types geohazards affecting related hydroelectrical plant. Our indicate displacements appear be mainly controlled hydraulic load, turn induced oscillations.
